Chemical Peel in Brentwood, TN
Dr. Jeffrey Lodge offers chemical peels for his patients in Brentwood, Nashville and surrounding areas in Tennessee. A chemical peel can help enhance your skin tone and improve the texture and appearance of your skin.
What is a Chemical Peel?
A chemical peel is an aesthetic procedure that is utilized to brighten and improve the skin tone while improving fine lines. This procedure is often completed on the face, neck, chest, shoulders and hands. The chemical emulsion removes the outer layers of skin which are damaged by age, sun, fine lines and wrinkles associated with mature skin or hyperpigmentation. Through the process of a chemical peel, we remove the outermost layer of skin in order to prompt the body to generate a new, collagen-filled layer of skin cells. Over the course of a week, the outer skin will slough off. The skin below should feel soft to the touch and brighter.
Studies show that people with sun damage appear even older than people with wrinkles. How? Sun damage is similar to an iceberg lurking below the skin surface. It may appear as a small spot outside, but it could be much wider below the surface. This sun damage robs the skin of its natural reflective qualities. A chemical peel can help clear sun damage, this process allows the skin to better reflect light, appearing luminous, radiant and more youthful. With severe hyperpigmentation, a medium chemical peel is often a great first treatment step in eliminating the damage.
How Can I Benefit from a Chemical Peel?
- Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
- Improve sun-damaged skin
- Correct brown spots and hyperpigmentation
- Lighten scars, including dark pigmentation from acne
How Do I Prepare for the Procedure?
Patients prepare for the procedure in a few ways. Review your medical history and be prepared to answer any questions related to medical conditions. Deep chemical peels require sedation so you may need to arrange for a ride home after the procedure.
Am I a Candidate for the Procedure?
If you have acne scars, aging skin, crow’s feet, sun damage, sagging skin, or wrinkles, you are a good candidate for a chemical peel.

What Should I Expect?
At the time of your procedure, any active skin disease, infection, or acne needs to be under control in order to maximize results.
The procedure typically will take a full hour of time. The first step is to thoroughly cleanse the skin. A solution is then carefully applied in layers. It remains on the skin for a specified amount of time in order to remove the outer layers of damaged skin. At this point, a frosting effect occurs making the skin appear white. Then, the skin may or may not be neutralized. If a more aggressive treatment is desired, the skin will self-neutralize over the next eight to 24 hours. With a moderate treatment, we will neutralize and cleanse the skin. Finally, we will hydrate then protect the skin to aid in healing.
What Will I Look Like Afterward?
Twenty-four-hour post-procedure instructions recommend patients to get ample rest and to restrict activities and vigorous exercise in order to promote healing and recovery. Patients should avoid direct sunlight. The skin will have a pinkish-to-red color, and a thin crust may form over the area that was treated. Peeling with the treatment area over the first week is expected. This often begins around day three. Patients are often tempted to pick or ‘peel’ skin during the sloughing process but should not do so. The downtime varies depending upon the extent of the chemical peel. Treatments may be repeated two – four times per year depending on the severity of the skin condition, and the layers of the peel applied.
